Join Our Team of Volunteers
Pendon Museum is staffed, managed and developed almost entirely by a friendly team of volunteers and we are always delighted to welcome new volunteers to our team.
Some 150 people support the project with their free time and wide-ranging skills, and we are always eager to welcome new recruits. You can make a difference to Pendon by contribution a little of your time.
You will be involved in a modelling endeavour that is:
- Of international repute
- Beyond the scope or budget of individual modellers
- Providing a lasting representation of past times for the enjoyment, education and inspiration of many visitors.
It’s a great way to meet people, learn new skills, and exploit your expertise.

How our volunteers help
- Staffing the Museum when it is open
- Operating trains on Dartmoor
- Acting as a guide on the Vale Scene
- Creating the models - buildings, scenery, locomotives, coaches, wagons, trackwork and control systems
- As part of our Marketing, publicity, publications teams
- Giving talks and lectures
- Helping with management and administrative tasks
- Helping with other development work - displays and exhibits etc.
- Managing the library, archives and artifacts
- Helping to maintain the building and exhibits.
