Visits by Youth Groups
Youth Group tours provide opportunities for up to sixty people to have the Museum to themselves at times when it is not open to the public. A group can then enjoy seeing the exhibits at leisure without being distracted by other visitors. A special showing normally lasts about two hours.
Youth tours are available to groups aged 7 to 16 and differ from educational group visits in that they are not linked to curriculum or project work.
Most of the exhibits are about 1.4 metres above floor level and the exhibition is not suitable for children less than seven years of age.
Fees
A minimum payment of £55.00 payable at the time of booking covers up to ten people in one party. An additional charge of £4.00 per head will be made for parties exceeding 10 in number up to a maximum of sixty. This payment is due at the time of admission, but it can be made in advance if preferred - click here to download a Booking Form
This scheme is only available to Youth or School groups aged 7 to 16 [except for leaders/supervision].
Arranging a visit
Please apply in writing to the Museum addressing your request to the Special Shows organiser. Bookings should be made at least three weeks in advance of a proposed visit. Please give daytime or evening telephone number (landline preferred) and an email address where you can be contacted.
We will confirm your booking in writing.
Availability
We arrange special showings throughout the year except December:
- on weekdays, Monday to Friday
- on Saturday and Sunday mornings
We will agree the time of your visit when you make your booking. Please bear in mind that we cannot arrange them during our public opening hours, details of which can be found here.
Supervision
We insist on the following ratio of adult supervisors to children, made up of teachers, volunteers and parents.
7 to 11 years - 1 adult to each 5 or 6 children
11 to 16 years - 1 adult to each 10 to 12 children
A group leader must be in overall charge of the party and, for safety reasons, children may not move unsupervised between sections of the Museum.
Museum staff must not be expected to supervise children directly.
