Pendon Museum is staffed, managed and developed almost entirely by an excellent team of volunteers.

At present some 150 people support the project with their free time and wide-ranging skills, but we are always eager to welcome new recruits.

Volunteers help in many ways:

• Staffing the Museum when it is open - either in the shop, driving trains on Dartmoor or acting as guides on the Vale Scene


• Creating the models - buildings, scenery, locomotives, coaches, wagons, trackwork and control systems


• Marketing, publicity, publications, talks and lectures


• Helping with management and administrative tasks


• Helping with other development work - displays and exhibits etc.


• Managing the library, archives and artefacts


• Maintenance of the building and exhibits
