Welcome from the Chairman

Chris Webber

Welcome to Pendon

I hope that you will find it easy to access the information that you require, whether this is your first virtual visit or one of many. The Museum recaptures a way of life that is fading from nostalgia into the realm of history during a time of great change during the 1920s and 30s, and we aim for an approach that reflects a desire for you to experience a high quality in all that we do.

We are working toward the vision of our founder Roye England in representing something that we now recognise as of great value – the harmony of man in nature and the impact that had on the lifestyle, transport, economic and physical environment of the Vale of White Horse in old Berkshire. His vision in representing a vanishing world through the medium of fine scale models 1:76th the size of reality has had a lasting impact, and our Museum is renowned throughout the world for its’ accuracy and quality.

Our methods have been developed through the years and although much has been accomplished, much remains to be done in the Museum. Pendon is staffed by a band of dedicated volunteers, supported by three equally dedicated part time administration and care-taking staff and a growing band of Friends of Pendon. We are always open to fresh offers of help, of whatever kind, but especially in staffing, running and developing the Museum.

If you have yet to visit us, then I hope that your study of this content will give you both an idea of what we have to offer and also the wish to see it for yourself. Our guides will extend a very warm welcome to you and your friends or family.

For Friends of the Museum, who actively support what we do and may be looking for the latest update on our activities, I hope that what you find will encourage you to take advantage of your complimentary access to visit us once again.

Finally, if you have any comments on the site, or wish to receive information from us on any area, please do not hesitate to contact us – but lease be patient if our reply seems delayed; as a voluntary organisation it can take a little while for us to respond!

Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you at the Museum soon,

Chris Webber, Chairman, Pendon Museum Trust
