The Madder Valley Railway

John Ahern's famous and pioneering Madder Valley layout, preserved as a tribute to the modeller's art in its own right, is on permanent display. Please note that the model is only run on specific days during the year. The dates can be found here.

Built entirely by one man, this fascinating layout, dating from the 1930s, is an historical relic of the early days of scenic railway modelling. It pioneered the idea of scenic craftsmanship, for until then no one had set a model railway in a fully developed landscape. It showed what could be done, and became almost legendary among modellers.
